The Junior School is home to Stage 3 (Years 5 and 6) students.<\/p>\n

The Junior School offers a holistic education in Religious Education, all Key Learning areas, as well as specialist lessons in Music, Art, Physical Education, Library Skills, Digital Technologies, and Mandarin.<\/p>\n

The day begins with the first bell at 8:30 am.\u00a0 Supervision is provided from 8:10 am.\u00a0 Students move to Homeroom for Roll Call at 8:35 am.\u00a0 It is a 6-period day over a 10-day cycle with recess at 10:38 am and lunch at 12:44 pm.\u00a0 The day concludes at 3:00 pm at which time students make their way home via the bus and train terminals that are within a five-minute walk of the College.<\/p>\n

Homework Help<\/strong><\/p>\n

Homework help is available on Tuesdays at lunchtime in the Junior School and Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday afternoons between 3:20 and 5:20 pm in the Academic Annex in the Senior Resource Centre.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Creative<\/strong> Quills Writing Skills Workshop<\/strong><\/p>\n

Students who have demonstrated exceptional writing skills and who are keen to make further improvements, are invited to join The Head of Junior School, Mrs Greenwood once a week during regular English lessons.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Maths Megaminds<\/strong><\/p>\n

Junior School students who have demonstrated an outstanding aptitude for Mathematics will be invited to join Mr Makhoul\u2019s club on Wednesdays at lunchtime to develop flexibility in problem-solving and to participate in the Maths Olympiad competition<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Debating<\/strong><\/p>\n

Junior School debating teams train on a Monday at lunchtime and compete in the Independent Primary School Heads Association (IPSHA) Debating Competition on Friday afternoons during school hours.\u00a0 Parents are welcome to attend the debates.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Leadership Opportunities<\/strong><\/p>\n

The Junior School has a comprehensive Leadership Program for students elected to the role of Class Captain or House Captain.\u00a0 Elected Captains play a role in leading Junior School assemblies and in sporting events.\u00a0 They engage in a fortnightly Leadership Workshop and participate in initiatives that promote the values of service in the Junior School.\u00a0 Student leaders also participate in the annual<\/strong> Edmund Rice Education Australia (EREA) Student Leaders Forum where they have the opportunity to meet and work with other student leaders from the EREA network.<\/p>\n

SPORT<\/strong><\/h3>\n

On Thursdays at 11:00am, students in the Junior School travel to the College Oxford Falls Campus for an afternoon of sport training with teaching staff and professional coaches.\u00a0 Students represent the College at Saturday morning sporting fixtures against other schools in the Independent Primary School Heads Association (IPSHA) competition.\u00a0 Students are expected to represent the College for two terms (one season) of sport.<\/p>\n

Sports offered include basketball, cricket, tennis, softball, touch football, football (soccer), rugby union, AFL, athletics, and swimming.<\/p>\n

JUNIOR RESOURCE CENTRE (JUNIOR LIBRARY) <\/strong><\/h3>\n

The Junior Resource Centre is open from 8:10 am on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Wednesdays and is a haven for students who love to read or who just want a quiet place to play board games or to enjoy Mrs Martin\u2019s latest book display.\u00a0 Mrs Martin is always available to recommend books and to inspire even our most reluctant readers.<\/p>\n

PERSONAL LEARNING DEVICES<\/strong><\/h3>\n

The College has a 1:1 Personal Learning Device (PLD) program. All Year 5 students and new Year 6 students receive a PLD (laptop) at the beginning of the year.\u00a0 Maintenance of the PLDs is provided by the College\u2019s I.T. Department.<\/p>\n

CANTEEN<\/strong><\/h3>\n

The College canteen is open at recess and lunch.\u00a0 The canteen is cash-free, and orders can be placed before 9.30am using Flexischools https:\/\/flexischools.com.au\/<\/a><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

OVERNIGHT EXCURSIONS<\/strong><\/h3>\n

Both Year 5 and Year 6 go away for 3 days and 2 nights, usually early in the year.\u00a0 Year 5 participate in an outdoor education camp while Year 6 visit Canberra as part of their studies of Australian history.\u00a0 These trips are an essential part of our educational program and are compulsory.<\/p>\n

PERFORMING ARTS<\/strong><\/h3>\n

Private music lessons are available during school hours and there is an opportunity to join the College\u2019s many\u00a0bands<\/a>, ensembles, chorales, choirs and drama clubs.<\/p>\n

THE ROLE OF PARENTS<\/strong><\/h3>\n

There are a number of ways in which parents can be involved with the College:\u00a0 as a class parent, as a canteen volunteer, as a member of one of our supporter groups or as a contributor to our Parents and Friends Association.<\/p>\n
